The Home and School Association would like to welcome you and your child/ren to the 2007-2008 school year at St. Augustine & St. Mary’s Cathedral School. The purpose of our organization is to join the forces of parents, staff and faculty to build a strong Christian school and community. To be successful in our efforts we need the participation and support of everyone. As a start to fulfilling this purpose, all parents, teachers and administrators are automatically members of the Association.
We sponsor various activities, projects and fund raisers throughout the school year. Coming in your weekly family communication envelope will be a calendar with the important dates for the next month and newsletter highlighting past and upcoming activities. Please note these dates and plan to attend or volunteer for these activities. A few activities to look for in the months to come are the Fall Family Picnic, Staff Appreciation, Informational meetings, quarterly business meetings, a skating party and more!
The Association’s primary means of support for all these things and the extra items we purchase for the school is the membership dues. The fee of $25.00 will be collected at the beginning of the school year. If for any reason you are unable to pay at that time, please turn in this amount to the school office as soon as possible in an envelope addressed to Home and School. We financially support the purchase of curriculum materials, software, and staff wish lists. Being members of the St. Augustine & St. Mary’s school community, we also actively support these annual events: Work-A-Thon, Fish Fry, and Technology Fundraiser.
St. Augustine & St. Mary’s has a wonderful tradition of parental participation. We want to keep that tradition alive and growing. Together we can make this year a truly special and memorable one for our children, the staff and ourselves.
Social Committee - Responsible for organizing and set-up of refreshments and clean-up for social events at our school. These events include, but are not limited to, Home & School Meetings, Open House, Fall Picnic and Music Programs when requested. Other responsibilities include organization, creation and distribution of St. Nicholas bags, organizing set-up and clean-up of meals for teachers during conferences and any other requests from the Home & School Association. The committee chairs appreciate any and all assistance. If each family volunteers for at least one event, they will all be successful and fun for everyone.
Guardian Angels - This is a program designed to welcome and help new families at our school. There is the committee chair, who organizes the volunteer “angels” and sends the introduction letter to the new families. The volunteers issue invitations for the events at the school and generally check to see if the new families need anything to help with entering our community or answer any questions they may have.
Fall Picnic - Our annual Fall Picnic is a social gathering to welcome the staff and families back to school and kick off the year in a casual setting. Home & School arranges the facility, provides drinks and paper products, as well as entertainment activities. We do ask families to bring a potluck item to share.
Share-The-Spirit - Responsible for organization, collection and drop-off of gifts for the Christmas Charity drive, sponsored in part with Catholic Charities. This committee is made up of a chairperson and four to five helpers to make Christmas for these families a joyous season.
Conference Meals for Teachers - As we all know conference nights are hectic nights and for no one so much as the teachers. As a courtesy and to show appreciation, the Home & School Social Committee organizes volunteers to prepare a meal for the teachers on these nights.
Quarterly Meetings - The H&S planning and information meetings are held 4 times per year, September, November, February & April (dates to be announced, but all start at 6:30 p.m.). We discuss upcoming events and share ideas, a brainstorming session for future events. Everyone is welcome to attend - no better way to be involved. Please look for more information during the year.
Staff Appreciation - Our teachers, support staff and parish staff, do so much for our children. In our appreciation, the Home & School hosts a small thank you celebration.
Catholic Schools Week Skating Party - Taking place during Catholic School Week, usually the last week of January or first week of February, Home & School organizes a roller skating party. The evening is geared toward full family participation.
Birthday Boxes - Birthday boxes are just what their name suggests: a birthday in a box. Each box contains the “essential” elements of a typical American birthday - a cake with all the trimmings and gifts. These boxes will be created by our students along with the generous sponsorship from area businesses and distributed on a monthly basis to the CARITAS FOOD SHELF.
